Placing Your Session On Call

As a BumperBrain expert you will often want to make yourself available to inquisitors, but at the same time go off and do something else while you wait for somebody to contact you. In these situations, you should place your session on call.

While your session is on call your browser window can be minimised so that it becomes unobtrusive, and we will alert you when anything requiring your attention happens. There are four ways in which we can alert you:

  • An audible alert will play a sound rather like a doorbell ringing.
  • A visible alert will popup a new (mini) browser window at the top-left of your screen.
  • You can also choose to receive both an audible & visible alert, which is of course both of the above.
  • We can also activate the browser window, in which case your browser window will be automatically restored and brought to the front of your screen.

When your session is on call we will send you alerts in the situations listed below. In most cases we will display a message sent to you via the BumperBrain Messaging System giving details of the event that has occurred. However, in the case of an inquisitor having arrived for a scheduled live consultation, we will take you straight through to the live consultation.

  • A question is posted that you may be able to answer.
  • An answer or response you posted earlier to a question is accepted by the inquisitor.
  • An inquisitor is trying to schedule a live consultation to answer a question.
  • An inquisitor has requested a live consultation with you.
  • An inquisitor has arrived at the designated time for a scheduled live consultation.
  • You receive a message from an inquisitor via the BumperBrain messaging system.

If you have not gone on call before, or if you are using a different browser than normal, you should run a test alert to make sure it works on your particular browser and that you are familiar with the way it works. Select your intended alert type and enter a delay in the box provided, then click on the "Continue" button. You should then minimise your browser window and go and do something else in the normal way - we will send you an alert as if something had happened after the designated period of time.
